NBC’s The Voice, a series that showcases singers, is featuring two Christian singers this season– two singers who released CDs to the contemporary Christian market…

Tony Vincent, who kind of looks like the Newsboys’ Peter Furler– bald with eye liner– used to be a pop-rocker in CCM back in the early 1990s, but he never really “made it” in Christian music, so he ended up singing in Broadway rock musicals like American Idiot, RENT, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Now he’s 38, married, with a kid on the way. And Cee-Lo Green picked him for his team on The Voice after he heard Tony belt out a Queen song, “We Are The Champions.”

Anthony Evans Jr. is the son of Dr. Anthony Evans, a prominent pastor known in Christian circles. Anthony is black but his music is pretty white, so he has been trying to appeal to white CCM fans for the past ten years. Now, he’s on The Voice, singing “What’s Goin’ On,” with his parents and Kirk Franklin and his wife Tammy there to support him. Anthony made a good point that he has been a “Gospel act” singing in front of crowds for 10 years but with this one appearance on The Voice more people will see him (on TV) in five minutes, right now, compared to all those he’s sung for in-person during the past decade. I thought his singing was a little off/bland, just like his past CDs aimed toward Christian music buyers, but Christina Aguilera liked his “runs,” and picked him for her team. So we shall see how he does on The Voice. –Mark Weber

Contemporary Christian/Inspirational recording artist Curt Collins (pictured above, in the middle, between producer D Scott Miller on the left and American Idol’s Bo Bice on the right) shared this news, recently:

“I’m excited to finally announce a new tour that has been in the works for sometime. I have been invited to tour with Bo Bice as we introduce him to Christian Radio throughout the country. We will be announcing cities and dates very soon. He and I have gotten to know each other through his producer and friend of mine D Scott Miller. D Scott is well known in the music industry as a hit songwriter and producer. He was also Senior Executive Vice President/A&R/Music Producer/Songwriter at Broken Bow Records, where he helped develop such artists as Craig Morgan and Jason Aldean.

Bo has an incredible story to tell and wants to share his life’s journey with others now more than ever and how God is moving in his life. After spending time with him, he truly has a strong love for the Lord and wants to take that love and his message into churches and venues throughout the country. I’m honored and blessed to be asked to go on this journey with him. God works in mysterious ways… doesn’t He?

What is Christian singer Andrew Carlton doing now?

Way back in the 1990s, Andrew Carlton & The Swing Doctors combined Swing music and Christian lyrics. Then Carlton went solo and changed his style to pop-rock, scoring a hit in 2007 with “Jesus, Hold Me.” He’s also known for the song “Hold Me Up,” and for having toured with artists like Rebecca St. James, Aaron Shust and Newsong.

What’s he up to, today? Carlton is married, to Kirsten, and they have two young kids (pictured above). And while he still records music, now he’s getting known in Nashville as a…realtor! His website is www.andynashville.com, and he was just named Rookie of the Year 2011 by Keller Williams Nashville. Way to go!

By the way, Andrew Carlton still has the whitest, brightest teeth of any contemporary Christian music artist, ever. –Mark Weber
