I like NewSong’s holiday hit, “The Christmas Shoes,” but I know more than one friend who says, “Oh God, not The Christmas Shoes again,” when it comes on the radio each December. I also know the song makes the annual “worst Christmas songs ever” list, and I think it’s because it’s too sugary sweet. The tear-jerker is about a poor kid trying to buy his dying parent a gift. And it has helped make NewSong money, as well as known outside of the Christian music world bubble.
Well, it looks like fans of the song will definitely want to attend NewSong’s “Very Merry Christmas Tour” in 2012, where they’ll perform The Christmas Shoes and other holiday tunes. Joining NewSong on this tour will be Francesca Battistelli, Building 429, and Jonny Diaz. NewSong is popular in the Southeastern part of the U.S. as well as the Midwest, so that’s where the tour will go, starting in Atlanta on Nov. 29 and ending rather quickly on Dec. 16. —Mark Weber
