In 2012, only three rock bands went platinum, selling a million copies of a project. Among them were two bands coming from a Christian perspective: Mumford & Sons and Skillet.
Skillet’s recent album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. Their last single sold over a million copies, following two Gold-selling singles, and their videos have amassed over 150 million YouTube views. They’re two time Grammy nominees. And Skillet has a new album coming this summer.
In addition to Skillet, the past year has seen impressive sales for Lecrae, TobyMac, and Chris Tomlin, all artists from a Christian perspective. When Chris Tomlin sells out Madison Square Garden in New York City, you know he has “arrived.” Christian music makers are now at the top of not just the “Christian charts,” but the overall charts. This is a pretty amazing development.
